Editorial policy.

Every guide and article starts with the current evidence. Before we write anything that makes a claim, we look at what reputable, up-to-date sources actually say, and we favour recognised veterinary and animal welfare authorities over second-hand summaries.

The sources we lean on include organisations such as the PDSA, RSPCA, the Blue Cross, the Kennel Club, International Cat Care, the Rabbit Welfare Association & Fund, the British Veterinary Association, and peer-reviewed veterinary research. Where a piece draws on a specific source, we link to it so you can read it yourself.

We don't invent statistics, and we don't cite studies we haven't checked. If we're not confident something is well-supported, we either leave it out or say plainly that the evidence is limited.

We want to be honest about what our content is, and what it isn't.

Our articles are carefully researched and written to be genuinely useful. They are not, at present, individually reviewed or approved by a veterinary surgeon, and we don't claim they are. When our content carries a "researched" note, that's exactly what it means: researched against current, reputable sources. If that ever changes, and we introduce formal veterinary review, we'll say so clearly and we won't imply it before it's true.

No article can examine your animal, and general guidance can't account for your pet's particular circumstances. So our content is designed to help you understand what you're seeing and decide what to do next, not to replace professional care.

Wherever something is beyond what a guide can safely cover, we say so, and we point you to a vet. For anything that may be urgent, we tell you to contact a vet straight away. This is a principle we hold to across everything we publish, including The Companion.

Our content is editorially independent. We write about what we think is useful, and our guidance is not for sale. We don't publish paid placements dressed up as editorial, and a company cannot pay to be recommended in our guides or articles.

Burrow is funded primarily through our newsletter. As we grow, we may introduce clearly-labelled sponsorship, or affiliate links where we'd recommend something anyway. If and when we do, we'll disclose it plainly, so you always know when there's a commercial relationship behind something you're reading. Any occasional lifestyle recommendations we make are chosen on merit, and we'll be transparent about any that are sponsored or affiliate-based.

We use AI tools as part of how we research and produce content, always under human direction and editing. The Companion, our chat tool, is AI-powered by design; it's there to help you organise your thinking, not to give clinical judgements, and we're upfront that it can be wrong. Wherever AI is involved, the same standards on this page apply: honest, evidence-led, and never a replacement for a vet.

We get things wrong sometimes, and pet health guidance itself changes as new evidence emerges. When we learn that something we've published is inaccurate or out of date, we correct it. We update our guides as understanding moves on, and we date them so you can see when they were last reviewed.
